Zhiyi
Zhiyi (538–597) studied under Huisi before teaching in the southern capital and at Mount Tiantai. He organized Buddhist scriptures around the Lotus Sūtra and developed a system of meditation joining calming and insight. His lectures on the Lotus Sūtra and the Great Calming and Contemplation were recorded and edited by his disciple Guanding. These works became the central texts of the Tiantai tradition.
