Daoxuan
Daoxuan (596–667) studied monastic discipline under Zhishou and spent much of his career around Chang'an and Mount Zhongnan. His commentaries on the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya established the basis of the Nanshan Vinaya tradition. He briefly assisted Xuanzang's translation work and served as abbot of Ximing Monastery. His Further Biographies of Eminent Monks and other historical compilations preserve extensive records of Chinese Buddhist institutions and practitioners.
