Jiumoluoshi (Kumārajīva)
Kumārajīva (344–413) grew up in Kucha and studied Buddhist teachings in Central Asia and Kashmir. After years of detention in Liangzhou, he reached Chang'an in 401, where the Later Qin ruler Yao Xing supported his translation work. Working with Chinese monks, including Sengzhao, he produced influential versions of the Lotus Sūtra, Diamond Sūtra and Vimalakīrti Sūtra. His translations of Madhyamaka treatises supplied the textual basis for the later Sanlun tradition.
